eNatter - 14th May 2021

Keep in touch with The Nare by subscribing to the eNatter (email newsletter) which is sent no more than six times a year.

The Nare reopens again on Monday after the longest winter of closure since the second world war years. I have never known a period when we have worked so hard just to remain closed. Reopening cannot come soon enough…The Nare is raring to go with some very strong bookings in the chart right up until November.

This eNatter only touches on a few of the many improvements that have been achieved in the hotel during lockdown, and includes the rather unusual virtual opening of the new Whittington Suites.

Do read on to find out who opened the new suites and just how The Nare was able to host a drinks party during lockdown. There is also the link to watch the ceremony and video tour on the website.

I also pay a modest sailor’s tribute to the late Duke of Edinburgh. A little anecdote of a close brush with the Admiral at Cowes week is offered as a fond farewell and recognition of his sportsmanship on and off the water.

It is not the first time I have said in the last year “I am very much looking forward to throwing open the front doors again. After all, an hotel proprietor without guests is like a scone without Cornish cream - pitiful and unbearable”; and again I say, “I simply cannot wait to welcome you back to The Nare.”

With very best wishes,

Toby Ashworth, Proprietor

Zoom party competition

Party goers were sent Taittinger and canapés to enjoy on the night and were asked to share a photo on social media to spread the party cheer. Staff each have their favourite but it was considered more fun for the winner to be chosen by Nare guests instead. The image with the most votes will be invited to Dine and Stay in one of the new Whittington Suites.

A sailor's tribute by Toby Ashworth

Many will have fond memories of The Duke and mine is with sporting affection following an incident in the Sigma38 fleet at Cowes Week in 1990. The Yacht Squadron had set a bold startline with the strong tide and challenging down-wind first leg to a port hand mark – a sailor’s equivalent to a Formula 1 first corner in the wet...

Cornwall's Spring Story was founded by Toby Ashworth to celebrate the moment Cornish Magnolias flower, spring has arrived in England. This year spring was declared on 26th February and was announced during The Nare's Whittington drinks party. As usual spring arrived in Cornwall almost a month before the rest of Britain.
